DOLCE SUONO ENSEMBLE has been thrilling audiences and invigorating the music world since its founding by flutist and Artistic Director Mimi Stillman in 2005. The ensemble presents critically acclaimed chamber music concerts on its home series in Philadelphia, performs on tour, commissions important new works, makes recordings, and engages in community engagement partnerships.
Soprano Sarah Shafer sings with numerous opera companies including The Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Glyndebourne, and Opera Philadelphia. Equally at home in standard and contemporary repertoire, she has created leading roles in world premiere productions and debuted works by composers such as Richard Danielpour and Jennifer Higdon. She has also appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, among many others.
Mimi Stillman, is an internationally acclaimed flutist who has performed as soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Marine Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Yucatán, and throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Israel. A Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician, she has taught masterclasses at prominent conservatories and universities. Stillman is also an author on music and history, host of Tea with Mimi livestream, and Faculty Artist-in-Residence at Temple University. She holds a B.M. from Curtis Institute of Music and an M.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania.
Guitarist Gideon Whitehead has given solo recitals at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society, and on WQXR. He teaches guitar at the University of Pennsylvania, Cairn University, and the Csehy Summer School of Music. Whitehead holds degrees from the Cleveland and Curtis Institutes of Music and an M.S. in Business Analytics from Temple University. His teachers include Jason Vieaux and David Starobin.
