Allegro Chamber Music Series: Trio Animoso performing works by Ravel & Debussy

Formed at Yale School of Music, Trio Animoso recently took first prize at the Italy International Harp Competition, “Angel Padilla Crespo.”

Flutist Sophia Jean is a Master of Music candidate at the Yale School of Music where she is a student of Tara Helen O’Connor. Sophia Jean previously studied at
Northwestern University, where she pursued a dual degree in Flute Performance and Cognitive Science. Sophia has attended numerous festivals including the Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music Festival (2024 Piccolo Fellow, 2023 New Horizons Fellow), and Kent Blossom Music Festival. In 2023, Sophia was named first place winner of both Chicago Flute Club’s Kujala International Piccolo Competition and Donald Peck Flute Competition. She will compete in the 2024 NFA Young Artist Competition in San Antonio, Texas. Sophia is originally from Lakeland, Florida, where she attended Harrison School for the Arts and performed as principal in the Harrison Symphony Orchestra, studying with Barbara Jacobson.

Violist Julian Seney has performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Beijing Concert Hall, under conductors Susanna Mälkki, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Gustavo Dudamel, among others. He has been a participant in the Perlman Music Program, Yellow Barn, and the Lucerne Festival Academy, including residencies through both Perlman Suncoast and the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival. He has premiered many new works and performed in Yale’s New Music series. He regularly performs as an improviser and has collaborated with Anthony Coleman and Joe Morris. Hailing from Los Angeles, he studied with Paul Coletti at the Colburn school. Seney received a Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory, having studied with Kim Kashkashian, and is pursuing a Masters of Music at the Yale School of Music with Ettore Causa.

Harpist Subin Lee performs regular solo recitals in South Korea and the United States, having appeared in venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Seoul Arts Center, Kumho Art Center, Ilshin Hall, and Perigee Hall. An award-winning harpist, Subin is the first prize winner of Italy International Harp Competition “Suoni d’arpa”, Lyon & Healy Awards, and was recognized for her academic and musical excellence during her years at Curtis Institute of Music, receiving the Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award. She is a prizewinner of numerous international and national competitions, including Hong Kong International Harp Competition, Korea International Harp Competition, Szeged International Harp Competition, and Germany International Harp Competition. As part of the 2021 Marylin Costello Composition Competition, she worked with the winning composer to provide feedback on harp writing and performed the world premiere of the work commissioned by the competition, “Blue, Vanishing”. Subin entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2019 and studied with Elizabeth Hainen as recipient of the Marylin Costello Fellowship. She is currently in pursuing a Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music with Professor June Han.
