Join Katie and Joe of the Consonant Collective as they teach you how to make a zine! We’ll talk briefly about the history of zines as a culture of resistance and self-expression, then learn a few simple book constructions that you can use to make your own zine. We will have art supplies, typewriters, and plenty of zines from our own collection to inspire you—and maybe even a writing prompt or two. No experience necessary, just come learn and have fun.
Consonant Collective is an arts group that creates books, zines, records, and performances, spearheaded by writer Katie Haegele and DIY enthusiast Joe Carlough. Their latest venture into the DIY is the On the Record Poetry series, a curated selection of poetry chapbooks and vinyl records of readings from the authors, created at home using two restored record lathes, a 1937 Presto 6DSP and a 1947 Rek-O-Kut Challenger.
