Sunday In The Square: A Musical Celebration
The Athenaeum of Philadelphia & Independence National Historical Park

The Athenaeum of Philadelphia and Independence National Historical Park are pleased to present to our neighbors a special concert in Washington Square. During the past eighteen months, we in the Greater Philadelphia region have shared grief in lives lost to Covid-19 and violence; we have come together in hope for a healthier future; and we have grown in resilience.

On September 26, we gather together in Washington Square to commemorate the past and lift our hearts to the future through music. This concert honors the rich history of Washington Square as a gathering place in the colonial era for African Americans and a burial ground for unnamed thousands of free and enslaved African Americans, Native Americans, other poor Philadelphians, soldiers, and victims of the 1793 Yellow Fever epidemic. https://www.nps.gov/inde/learn/historyculture/places-washingtonsquare.htm

We hope that you will join us for marvelous performances by talented artists at our Sunday in the Square!

The Athenaeum building will be open from 1:00pm-5:00pm for visitation!
