The Classical Guitar Soirée Recital Series at the Athenaeum of Philadelphia is hosted in partnership with the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. A Soirée is a lively and intimate gathering that enriches participants' understanding through conversation and music. The classical guitar is often best appreciated and understood in this setting.
The concert starts at 5:30PM. It will be followed by light refreshments and a meet-and-greet with the performer.
Described as creating "music of dramatic power and lyric beauty," classical guitarist Ben Lougheed is known for his “beautifully polished, passionate, and engaging performances.” Ben’s multifaceted career includes over a decade of concertizing, community engagement, music entrepreneurship, and education. Audiences, colleagues, and critics have called Ben "an emerging force in the classical guitar world” and “without question a first-rate artist.” Ben holds a Bachelor of Music in guitar performance from the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, where he attended on the Charlie Byrd Memorial Scholarship. He earned both a Master’s and a Doctor of Music degree at Florida State University. Ben plays a handmade double-top guitar made by German luthier Antonius Muller.
