This photographic workshop explores the histories the Delaware River runs through as a means of celebrating the power of place and the Semiquincentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Consider the long history of the Delaware River: the home of the Lenape, the site of Washington's famous crossing to win a key battle in the Revolutionary War, the coal transported downriver to fuel America's Industrial Revolution, the industries that populated the river's banks, and our current moment in time.
Participants will explore how the Delaware River has shaped Philadelphia, America, and the landscape during this three hour workshop and photo walk. We will visit historical sites between The Athenaeum and the river, considering how photography can reveal and utilize these histories, both hidden and visible, to inform our present and future.
This workshop requires a camera.
