The Philadelphia WikiSalon is a skills-oriented meetup for people interested in Wikipedia, Wikidata, or Wikimedia Commons. On June 13, 2026, the Philadelphia WikiSalon is happy to hold an in-person WikiSocial event. We hope you will join us at The Athenaeum of Philadelphia for a special tour of the archives starting at noon. Founded in 1814, The Athenaeum (219 S 6th Street) is a member-supported circulating library, special collections library, and public forum offering lectures, concerts, film screenings and discussion groups throughout the year. Accessible to researchers in person and online, The Athenaeum’s holdings are focused on Philadelphia architects and architecture and include 360,000 architectural drawings and 300,000 photographic images, among other items.
The size of the tour is limited to 15 people, so please register in advance!
Following the tour of The Athenaeum, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the WikiSalon organizers and other experienced Wikipedians. At 2PM. we will proceed to Madis Coffee Roasters at the Curtis (601 Walnut Street) to socialize. Madis has ample indoor and outdoor seating and offers a range of food and drinks which people can order.
The Philadelphia WikiSalon is hosted by Mary Mark Ockerbloom and Doreva Belfiore. The WikiSalon is normally held online, once a month, in sessions that teach and support the editing of Wikimedia Projects. We alternate between short demonstrations of new skills (10-15 minutes) and work sessions to practice skills. Attendees share what they are working on, ask questions, and get feedback and support. Regulars include librarians, archivists, professors and people interested in digital humanities and the sciences, but everyone is welcome!
Mary Mark Ockerbloom has worked as a Wikipedian-in-Residence with the MBH Foundation, the Science History Institute, and scientific publisher Annual Reviews. Among other activities, she has written a Wikipedia Workbook for Cultural Institutions (2024, 2nd edition). She also manages A Celebration of Women Writers, a website hosted at the University of Pennsylvania.
Doreva Belfiore is a retired digital librarian who formerly worked for Hosting Solutions and Library Consulting (HSLC), leading a team supporting POWER Library, the electronic library resources portal for the Commonwealth Libraries of Pennsylvania, and for Temple University Libraries, managing digital projects highlighting the libraries’ unique special collections. Doreva edits Wikipedia and Wikidata and contributes photos to Wikimedia Commons, often focusing on women’s and LGBTQIA history, Philadelphia and science.
This is a free event.
