Writers' Gathering at A Man Full of Trouble Tavern

The Athenaeum welcomes member writers to this social, off-site happy hour at A Man Full of Trouble Tavern.

Whether new to the writer’s life or long-seasoned, writers of all stripes are invited to connect with fellow novelists, memoirists, journalists, and other wordsmiths over beverages and hoagie bites in Philadelphia's oldest tavern, built in 1759 and recently restored.

Registration includes complementary beer from the full taproom run by Succession Fermentory, as well an assortment of wine, spirits, non-alcoholic beverages, and light snacks. Owner Dan Wheeler will provide a  brief tour of the tavern, and the historically-accurate choices that went into its restoration, promptly at 5:30 PM. Otherwise, registrants are free to drop in anytime between 5:00 - 7:30 PM.
