We invite you to join us for an evening soiree of classical and flamenco guitar music with Marco Corrales and Juanito Pascual.

The Classical Guitar Soirée Recital Series at the Athenaeum of Philadelphia is offered in partnership with the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. A Soirée is a lively and intimate gathering that increases the participants' knowledge through conversation and music. The classical guitar is often best listened to and understood within this context. This program will feature two fantastic guitarists in successive solo recitals. The combination of classical Latin-inspired guitar music and the rhythm and energy of flamenco fusion will surely leave a lasting impression on the listener.

Marco Corrales is one of the most prominent guitarists in Central America. He began his studies at Conservatorio de Castella with Nuria Zúñiga. Later, he continued his studies in guitar at the University of Costa Rica with maestro Jorge Luis Zamora. Dedicated to performing Latin-American music and showcasing the work of living composers of the region, he has recorded four albums, two of which include original guitar works by Costa Rican composers. Marco Corrales's passion for Latin American music has taken him to various international stages, including Costa Rica, the USA, Mexico, Argentina, Panama, Colombia, El Salvador, and Brazil. His talent has been recognized in numerous national and international competitions, including the International Guitar Competition Panama City (2018), where he won the First Prize. He is currently studying for a master’s degree in guitar performance at the University of Texas at San Antonio with maestro Isaac Bustos.

Jonathan “Juanito” Pascual is an internationally recognized guitarist and “flamenco phenom” (The Boston Globe). Born in Minneapolis, MN, Juanito is recognized in Spain and the U.S. as a unique and creative flamenco and jazz performer. Juanito has performed in many internationally best-known fine arts centers, clubs, and festivals, including the Lincoln Center, the 92nd St. Y, Blue Note Jazz Club, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, and the Panama Jazz Festival. He has been featured in special events, including concerts hosted by Jane Goodall in Panama, on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion and as a guest on National Public Radio's The World program, among other television and radio programs. In 2009, Juanito made his on-screen debut alongside Steve Martin and Andy Garcia in the 2009 film Pink Panther 2. He continued his film score work on several projects, including the 2016 Netflix biopic based on the life of Pope Francis, Call Me Francis.
