SOLD OUT- Rembrandt's Holland Course
Larry Silver

This mini-course will examine the paintings and prints of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-69) and some of his Dutch contemporaries during the first full century of the Dutch Republic. Two sessions will examine the following 1) Rembrandt's religion, with attention to his responses to the Amsterdam Jewish community; 2) Rembrandt's portraits, with attention not only to his sitters for group portraits and individual likenesses, but also his unprecedented attention to self-portraits across his lifetime. A final session will examine Rembrandt's other experiments, particularly landscapes of his surroundings, and everyday scenes, in relation to some of his celebrated contemporaries.
