Layers of Time: A Collage Workshop
Yannick Lowery

Continuing his artistic practice of introducing “futuring” as a communal exercise, visual artist Yannick lowery will be leading a 3-hour workshop that uses collage to remember and imagine our collective experiences in the city of Philadelphia. Drawn from prompts and discussions around memory and our future predictions, participants will work with local, archival, and contemporary imagery from the city and begin illustrating and constructing these visions through paper collage. While creating compositions that illustrate re-imagined landscapes of Philadelphia, participants will learn several techniques for dynamic composition and visual storytelling. Materials will be provided. Ages 18+.

Cull, Cut, Craft is sponsored by The Roger W. Moss Symposium FundPoor Richard's Charitable Trust, PNC Bank, Colleé, and Blick.

Yannick Lowery is an interdisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia.  His work explores illustrated proverbs, portents and historical souvenirs to guide the viewer through cultural introspection and imaginative perpetuation. By using the parallels of archival imagery and his own photography, he employs world-creation through collage, animation, and sculptural works. Lowery’s deeply personal, sentient body of work explores visual art as an echolocation device and reflectional tool of retelling and foretelling of narratives that reflect the identities of his community. Ultimately, his works are allegorical tools for his true medium: the robust ecosystem of communities that inspire him, become central imagery for his work, and participate in the concepts that inform his oeuvre.
