Discover the art of collage in this hands-on introductory workshop. Whether you're a seasoned artist looking to explore a new medium or a complete beginner ready to unleash your creativity, this workshop will guide you through creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art out of magazines, colored paper, and ephemera. Participants will learn about the basic materials, tools, and techniques to build a collage. Guided by artist Deanna Black, you will learn helpful tips for selecting a color palette, choosing a subject, and laying out a composition. By the end of the session, you'll not only have a beautiful piece of art to take home but also the skills and inspiration to continue creating collages on your own.
All necessary materials, including magazines, scissors, glue, and a variety of papers and ephemera, will be provided. Feel free to bring any personal items you would like to include in your collage.
This workshop is designed to be multi-generational -- all ages are welcome!
Please note that this workshop is being offered twice on Saturday, September 7. This registration is for the afternoon session (1:00PM-2:30PM).
Deanna Black is a multidisciplinary artist and designer from the Philadelphia suburbs who works in collage, paint, and graphic design. She discovered her love for collage in 2011 from creating a weekly art journal in a high school art class. Enthralled by the process of using mixed media to construct intricately layered and expressive pieces within a journal, she began bringing her work beyond the pages.
Deanna pursued her passion for art and design at Kutztown University, where she studied Communication Design to develop her skills in illustration and graphic design. Missing the creative chaos of collage, she again began exploring mixed media, now implementing her design skills into her work. Her collages are fueled by a profound love of collecting ephemera and combining the scraps into compelling visuals. She finds inspiration from nature, music, and traveling. Currently, she channels her creativity as a surface/product designer in the tabletop industry, using her illustration skills to create prints that adorn homes with a touch of her distinctive artistic flair.
