Young Friends' Special Event: Complications in Sue with Opera Philadelphia

Athenaeum Young Friends and their guests (ages 21+) are invited to join VIVACE, Opera Philadelphia's community of young friends, for a very special package of events:

Inside the Music: Complications in Sue @ The Athenaeum on Saturday, January 31st at 1:00pm.  Explore the music of Complications in Sue, a world premiere opera scored by ten different composers, at this engaging talk with Opera Philadelphia's Scholar-in-Residence Dr. Lily Kass. This event is sold out, but a block of tickets has been reserved for Athenaeum YF and their guests.

World Premier: Complications in Sue @ The Academy of Music on Friday, February 6th at 8:00pm.  Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning playwright Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop) makes his operatic debut with an original libretto that brings his “provocative mix of high-mindedness and low satire” (The New York Times) to a new scale. Starring cabaret icon and MacArthur Genius Justin Vivian Bond, Complications in Sue pieces together one woman’s existence across ten decades, each scored by a different composer. Directors Zack Winokur and Raja Feather Kelly bring Sue, and the myriad characters who surround her, to life under the baton of Caren Levine, while Jonathan Anderson, the creative force behind Dior and JW Anderson, dresses her through life and death.  This production contains adult language and content. (In English with English supertitles. 90 minutes, no intermission.)

After-Party with VIVACE.  Meet and mingle with Opera Philadelphia's young friends after the performance!

There are a limited number of tickets available, at $11 for the entire package. Bringing a guest? Purchase 2 tickets at the YF member price.

For Inside the Music, attendees names will be at the Athenaeum door. For the performance, tickets will be at the Academy box office.
