“Orbis, The Natural World” is opening at The Athenaeum on February 2nd. The artist will be present at the gallery on First Friday to meet with, between 5 - 7pm.
Elayne Bryn’s digital art is inspired by the natural world. The "Orbis" series is a collection of digital images; Celestial, Terre, and Marine, that depict images of the sky, the land, and the sea. Her work is warmed by an iconic sun face inspired by 17th century celestial cartography and botanical images from Renaissance gardens. She explores the undersea world through drawings made by naturalists who recorded their observations. These images are now preserved digitally in historical scientific archives that are now posted in open- source sites on the internet. The modern world meets the ancient natural world through Elayne’s large digital images that are reproduced in vibrant colors on archival paper.
Elayne Bryn was born and raised in suburban Philadelphia. She graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art with a BFA in illustration. She is also a graduate of Villanova Law School. She now works in her studio outside of Philadelphia and in Los Angeles. In May, 2023, Elayne won the First Place Award for Digital Art at the Beverly Hills Art Show.
