Join fellow Athenaeum members for a docent-led tour of the juried exhibition, "Art Quilters Celebrate Independence," featuring artwork by Studio Art Quilt Associates–Pennsylvania (SAQA-PA) in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States. Thirty-nine innovative art quilts and quilted sculptures delve into themes of independence, freedom of expression and democratic values in our country today. Each artwork connects with America’s rich history while representing exciting conceptual and technical innovations that affirm the art quilt as a contemporary fine art medium. Docent, Eleanor Levie — organizer of the exhibition, quilt historian, author and Athenaeum member — will highlight the cultural, emotional and sociological significance of the pieces, sharing intriguing backstories and revealing the unique materials and techniques used in their creation.
Attendees are invited to gather after the tour for hot and cold beverages and light bites at the SAGE café or bring a bagged lunch.
Please note that transportation is not provided. Attendees must make their own travel arrangements to and from The Galleries at Moore, 1916 Race Street. Paid, self-parking is available at the Franklin Institute garage at 249 N 21st Street.
